There are many tools and methods for qualitative data (non-numeric data). Increasingly, researchers are turning to CAQDAS (computer assisted qualitative data analysis) tools. One of the most of popular software packages is called Atlas.ti. While a full understanding of Atlas.ti is beyond an intro to research methods class, the video below offers a good introduction to how qualitative data is analysed.
