Social Media demographics

Many students are interested in social media. They also have a tendency to think that young people are the primary users of social media. This is pretty common, usually, young people have a tendency see themselves as the center of almost anything. So I thought it would be interesting to provide some demographic data for social media use and age.

First, what is the age breakdown of the USA?

According to USA Facts, 5-19 yr olds made up only 19.1% of the US population in 2021.

Those aged 20-34 make up 20.2% and 35-49 year olds made up another 19%. Thus, 20-49 year olds make up 39.2% of the US population.

Ok, so if teens do NOT make up a majo

Ok, so if teens do not make a large part of the US population, maybe they're still the the main ones on social media sites?

Yes and no...As shown by Pews Social Media Fact Sheet, teens are more likely to report having used social media than other age groups, but as you can see the other age groups have caught up fast!

As much as 84% of 18-29 year olds say they've used social media compared to 81% of 30-49 year olds.
