Wk02 (M, 8/31 - Su, 9/6): Intros

Wk2 Goals

The week’s goals focus on introducing students to each other and to the instructor, familiarizing students with the course, its requirements, and Brightspace (including how Brightspace is organized for this course).

After this week, students should

start to get to know other students in the course,
know how to contact the instructor (including knowing when it is appropriate to contact the instructor),
be able to craft a proper email to the instructor
be familiar with the syllabus including how to use it
be able to describe the expectations and policies of the course
be familiar with Brightspace and how to get help for technical issues
be able to define some basic terms, major concepts, and questions related to the study of immigration

T, 9/1: Introductions (to each other, instructor, syllabus, course policies, and Brightspace)

Introduce Students to Each Other and Instructor (Ice-breaker, introductions)
Introduction to the Course and Requirements
- Review syllabus, course policies
Introduction to Brightspace
- Review Brightspace organization (course info, weekly modules, homework!)

Th, 9/3: In-Class Activity

There are no new assigned readings for Thursday. Instead, we will start HMWK4 and HMWK5.

HMWK4: Some Basics About Migration
- begins as an in-class activity. Then, students will complete the remainder of HMWK4 at home and submit it on Brightspace.
HMWK5: Countries and Founding Myths – due Th, 9/10 (see WK3)
- Students will divide up into groups of 3 based on chosen country
